I've just started working with a new site. Has anyone got any tips on new site announcement resources and any ideas on how to go about it.
Thanks.

Go for press releases, announce the website in specialized communities such as message boards, usenet etc, send info to websites specialized in the same area of yours, link with such websites too

Announcements in on-topic forums is a good idea, as well as link exchange requests.
...And don't wait around for people to show up, keep building a great site with lots of content, so people will keep coming back once you do get them.

Thanks for the tips fellas.
I've started submitting to the major SE's and directories. I'm gong to start looking into niche directories today, as for link exchanges I'm not sure how weel this is going to go, as the site is brand new it has no PR whatsoever, I think webmasters will be reluctant to link with me bearing that in mind.
I was thinking of targeting other on topic sites with low PR which are not well established and pointing out the benefits i.e. building a community of sites that arn't as estabvlished as the top ranked sites and growing together.
Is this a good way to go.

Dont base a link decision on PR but on the relevancy of information. A link on 10 low PR highly specialized websites can bring you more traffic than one on Yahoo.
The key os to invest time, also by being active member of lists and boards and having your website in your signature u can have lot of trafic
