while picking out keyword (children's) I wondered if I also needed to include (childrens) without the apostrophe -- does anyone know if you need to specfy this sort of thing exactly.
Also, if you keyword (children's book) -- do you also need to keyword the plural version (children's books) -- or is that included
thanks,

Google provides the answers here https://adwords.google.com/select/faq/keywords.html

We've included variations of this nature in our ad campaigns on Google. A trailing apostrophe does not seem to make a difference but an apostrophe embedded in the word does. So I would include both children's and childrens and not bother with childrens'. We have used plurals for the same reason and therefore would have both book and books - with the variations of childrens. I have found that there are different figures against the Impressions of that ad for the variations of the keywords - so it must make a difference.
In any case, if the click through rate falls below the required minimum for 1000 impressions then the keyword is disabled. So you can always play with it and tune it to suit your requirements.

What polarmate has suggested makes perfect sense.
Put in as many variations as you can think of. You can even think about common spelling mistakes and make sure you cover these possibilities too.
Monitor the campaign over time and you might be surprised by the results.
Another benefit of this is your competitors might not be as thorough as you are, and you might find your sponsored link is the only one that appears for the search terms with spelling mistakes.
Here's something that will emphasise the point. Have a look at this page

You wouldn't believe how many ways there are of misspelling Britney Spears!! :slywink:
