Check out the entire top ten in Google for the phrase UK Web Site Promotion.
Try and spot the one that isn't cheating their way to the top! LOL

Mazy,
Yeah, I laughed. I'm gonna have a good look at the patients directory thing to see what clever optimization techniques they must have employed to get that great ranking.

By cheating are you talking about multiple URLs for the same company? I did see evidence of that. Interesting how easy it seems to be to spam Google lately. They were supposed to be the one where these tricks wouldn't work!

I just ran the search and found 10 different sites in the top ten. Not seeing what you all are seeing at all. Not even one single doorway page.

Doug, 10 different URLs, but at least 2 of those top 10 companies were taking up 4 of the spaces. SpannerWorks owned two sites, and another company owned 2 other ones...forget what it was right now. I didn't study the results or pages that closely, but did notice that.

Plus there was at least one site (who I have always respected in the past) that have little itty bitty links at the bottom of the cached page.
Where do they link to? Try things like dway-av.htm and such like. There is another that is revealed as soonas you use the CTRL-A keys.
As Jill stated, another that has multiple listings. (The other non-spannerworks site is really abusing this muliple domains thing) which I'm not overly concerned with if the content is really different. Theirs is not by a long shot.
What has happened to Google?

For sure. It's like Google is all the sudden welcoming all the spam to come out of the woodwork now. They also do NOT seem to follow up on reporting anymore.

Let's hope the Google engineers are working on getting the gaps closed. It does appear lately (last two months), that many more spam sites have found their way into the index...either that or the algorithm is breaking down!~ Regardless, Google still provides some of the most relevant results on the web, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Teoma.
