I did a little research on backwards linking, and it doesn't look like Google indexes the JoeAnt directory, because I didn't see the listings in JoeAnt as backwards links for any of the sites I tried (which were all PR4 or greater)

Anyone know why, or whether they will/plan to in the future? Does anyone feel they will in the future?

I am correct in saying that they don't index the JoeAnt directory right?

They do index JoeAnt's directory.

Not to be skeptical, but could you show me a backwards link. I tried to find one for like 20 minutes.

I found different sites with PR of 4 or greater that were in JoeAnt, and checked for backwards links, and i couldn't find JoeAnt for any of them on Google.

Not that I won't submit to them if they aren't, they seem like a very good directory that will be around for a while, but I just got the impression google doesn't index the entire JoeAnt directory.

The JoeAnt.com directory is heavily indexed. Only sections we have listed as "No Follows/No Caches" are not. Google has been very kind to us...

As for actually showing you backlinks that were credited to the URL listed on JA? I personally think we're too young, but others have said they've achieved them.

Great!

I knew the site had been indexed by Google, I tried searching for JoeAnt before and saw the tens of thousands of results, my concern was that I didn't see JoeAnt as a backwards link to any sites when I did a Link check on google for sites I knew were in JoeAnt.

But if you say others are seeing backlinks, then thats great, I guess its not for every site for reasons like you said. Personally I like JoeAnt. Its a regular step in my SEO process now.

Thanks for the response.

http://www.google.com/search?q=link:http://www.canadiangardening.com/&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&start=40&sa=N

This is a backward link for canadiangardening.com. There is a link from the JoeAnt directory at the 47th listing.

I know I had seen these before but it took a while to actually find a link. :)

I'm sure they will be a lot easier to find after the next dance.

Well, my link doesn't work when you click on it but you can do a backward link check for that website and see the backward link from JoeAnt at the 47th position. Sorry for the link not working.

I just read my first post again, and I see where i wasn't very clear what I was asking.

JoeAnt has been around since 2000, thats not that young.

Thanks tbotech. Maybe I chose a bad Random Sample (I checked like 5-6 sites)

Bad post again, I meant- do you consider 2 years young, or is that just the copyright and its actually younger than that?

I don't consider that young. But, we haven't been spiderable for that long. I can't remember exactly when, but it hasn't been longer then 5 months.

Google has been a great friend during the early launch of our new site. For that, we're very thankful. They're a great site that has revolutionized the way we all search. You rarely catch me searching anywhere else. That being said, for us to truly succeed, we need our own success. While we may be worth submitting to for the very reason it may help you out with Google, it wouldn't be right for us to rely on that factor alone. Until JoeAnt can unilaterally ( I watch too much news :) ) help those that are indexed with their traffic needs, we're reliant and living off of someone else's phenomenal concept. We'll take whatever help we can get...and that includes these very message boards. I personally won't be happy until I can tell every one of you that JoeAnt.com can stand by itself. It's not an easy task and it may be a partial dream, but please don't fault us if we try to make this a reality. No doubt, this is going to take the help of Google. We all need Google :) . I guess it all boils down to how most of us were raised. There's nothing wrong with asking for help, but you can really only rely on yourself. We love the fact that Google has paid this much attention to us. When we first witnessed their love, we couldn't believe our eyes. Do we want to be called the "Google Placement Helpers" for years to come? That would be great and I hope we continue to keep them happy over there....BUT, I'd feel much safer and accomplished when others are submitting to JoeAnt.com because of JoeAnt.com. This is the main reason I don't like to stress our need for Google and the other spider engines. That's telling others that without them, we're nothing. Because really....

Good Attitude!!
I agree

Well for what its worth, i'm a newly converted JoeAnt promoter (and I was converted before I even considered Google backlinks). I love the idea of the community Internet, and I think JoeAnt is a great site.

I tell all of my hosting clients about it, and submit the sites I manage to it. I hope JoeAnt surpases all of your expectations. Good luck!
