Hi All
Well I made it to Lycos,#60 on a search for "professional site design"
Not exactly no1 but kewl by me!!
Two problems persist
1)It SEEMS they are using the keywords and phrases from BEFORE the redesign/SEO. This was from the site they said they couldnt list!!Whats up with that and will it carry over to other SE??
2)This is a biggie-
What is the best way to find yourself using keywords and phrases. The combos are limitless and you could literally take weeks to find yourself. Is there a good format or software to do this?????
Free/shareware would be sweet:)
Thanks all

All it means is that the spider has not picked up your changes yet. Don't fret about Lycos however. Even in the top ten on your search terms gets you little referrals.

Not quite sure where you are coming from here.
You know what your most important keyword phrases are now, so you either get software and put those phrases into it to check, or you manually search on those phrases at the search engine to see where you are. I use www.TopDog.com for this. Others use WPG.

oh. No, you cannot possibly find out how many ways you could be found. All you can do is have your targeted phrases handy and do searches on those phrases.
There could be thousands of different ways you come up on any given engine. You can only target a few ways.
The software I mentioned are programs you can buy to do reporting for you to see where you rank on your search terms. WPG is another program just like TopDog is.

See, you said #60 and that is not bad considering the spider has not picked up the changes you made as yet.

Things are starting to pick up then Jimi, great stuff, for position checking check out AgentWebRanking from aadsoft.com, its quick, acurate and FREE!
Remember it is only a position checker unlike topdog or Web Position **** (WPG) and also bear in mind that engines do not like position checkers so do use carefully and try to use it when the engines are off 'peak' (during the wee hours, US time)

The best way to see which keywords and key phrases you rank well for is by checking your referrer logs. See what phrases people searched for to get to your site. Sure, there might be another million search terms that people can find your site from, BUT, the ones in your referrer logs are the only ones people are actually using. These are the only ones that matter.
