I waited for 2 months for Google to update its DMOZ listings. Man, in these 2 months, many many DMOZ listings are updated. What's up with Google?

Don't know usbnuts. They are quick at times, and not so quick at other times.

They will, your site may have been added at the very beginning of two months ago...i.e. you'll be in the next one.

Not quite sure I understand the question...if your site gets listed tomorrow in dmoz, you probably won't show up in the google directory for 2 months

I sincerely hope the update will come soon. My site is dying right now as I lost 2600 visitors daily from Google. I seriously need to get back on the track with the DMOZ listing.

ARGH!

That's a ton of visitors to lose in one day.

I am literally losing hundreds everyday. So, the situation is ugly. Get rid of my title. I can't even help myself. So, don't call me a 'Very Helpful Member'.

newriver. what I'm getting at is if I submit to DMOZ tomorrow will it help my listing with Google in the future? I was under the impression the Google got all it's listings from DMOZ in the beginning but now rates it along with other SEs.

If I sound confusing blame it on the pain killers, I had some minor surgery today in my belly and trying to make since in the little time I can sit at 'puter is frustrating. Thanks for understanding, but if I don't try to ask now I'll forget about this thread and then NEVER get an answer:rolleyes:

oh yes WW. Any DMOZ listing you get is always going to help your site with Google.

Google sees DMOZ as truth veritifer. So, if DMOZ category that fits your content has listed your site, your site PAGERANK will increase significantly. This also affects pages linked from your DMOZ-listed site.

When your PAGERANK increase, most of your pages will rank higher than your competing pages on Google.

However, the problem is that Google looks at its OWN DMOZ listings co-branded from DMOZ.org rather than the primary DMOMZ database which gets updated regularly. Google doesn't always update its DMOZ listings. So, if your site is listed, you won't see the DMOZ effect until Google sees it.

Important to note, a submission to DMOZ could in itself take a month for acceptance. So, WW the question should be "if the site was accepted tomorrow".

Actually I really have no idea how long it takes for submissions to be reviewed [and possibly accepted] by DMOZ, but I would venture to say it varies greatly [given what I've read] by category and/or editor. However, I'm sure newriver reviews all submission within the hour!~ ;) Seriously, new listings [just as new content on your site] could take up to two months, depending on the google cycle.

The time involved is a huge detriment, especially when you have clients that want results asap. By only submitting to DMOZ, you run the risk of the site not being listed for 2 months or Longer! This is much wasted time.

Since Google will not rank you high until you have a good link somewhere, you are much better off to get into Yahoo or Looksmart first, so Google will catch the link. Just submitting to DMOZ will make it much later til you reap the rewards. I always recommend to get into LS and submit to DMOZ at the same time.

"I'm sure newriver reviews within a few hours"

;)

But of course, in fact I accept sites within seconds...make that nano-seconds....lol

Thanks for the info, guys. Once I can sit for more than 10 min. I'll have to surf the new waters:); now I understand why my use of frames could be a deterrent because I can't send the reviewer to the individual page about that specific service/content.
