You can buy a domain name anywhere, and host it anywhere. I know a really great web host, they're in Pakistan, right next door to India. It's schogini.com
I hosted there for 3 years until I needed larger spaces ... and I was very happy with the service there. In three years my site was NEVER down not even for a minute. Any email sent to customer service was responded to and resolved inside of two hours, no matter what time of the day or night I sent it.
Jimmy & Sree are the guys who own it, and operate it. They've become friends of mine, and are very honest business people.
Good Luck. :)

If you don't have many daily visitors I could add you to my server and have you up and running in less then 48 hours - for free :D
(not many ~ 200 - 300 per day)

What i understand from savvy is that one can buy domain name and get webhost anywhere in the world.
But the problem for me is that I don't have credit card.I m a student.
I can pay through draft or cash(if the company is local). So if i look for a web host company in say US i will have to pay through credit card.Draft may be possible(I don't know)........
But the postal charge is there.
IF
i get a webhost company in Calcutta I can believe more on them since i can meet them personally before and after buying.
Lundorff :
Thanks.........
Now my webpage gets at max 80 visitors /day.It will increase in future............
Till then if u give me the free hosting........before that i will have to buy the domain name 1st ........ am i correct???
I have 1 more question:
Say i now buy a domain and get a web host........ say for some reason the company which is webhosting stops its business after few months or year...........then I would have to change my web host ............what abt domain name......???
Is there any problem in it..........???

When you register a domainname you tell the register which nameservers you want to point the domain at. These nameservers (DNS) are given to you by your host. After the domainname has been official registrated it now points towards your host and they can add your domainname to their machines.
To answer your question then domainnames are not directly connected with your hosting (......LOL) since you can change its direction at any given time. If the host goes out of business you simply log into the place you registrated your domainname and change the 2 (it's often 2) nameserver-locations (DNS).
Normally I would advice you to buy the domainname form eighter dotster.com or registrefly.com or godaddy.com but I dont know if you can pay without a creditcard.
P.S 80 visitors a day is no problem ;)

If you buy it through an open SRS reseller, even if the company goes out of business it's still listed within the open SRS database and the fees would negotiate through there.
The DNS will respond through registry as long as it is paid for. I wouldn't suggest going through networksolutions/netsol/verisign as they are HUGE CROOKS.
Schogini.com is a tucows (open SRS reseller) and you can get a .com domain through them for $18.00 a year, they accept online checks (maybe even drafts I don't know?) plus they have a nice domain management interface where you can update your DNS though at any time. I have 7 domains through them, and the rest are through other registrars.
It all depends on what domain TLD you want to buy also, if it's a .cc, .com, .net, .org ... there have been quite a few .ws domains sold, but that doesn't seem to be catching on real well. The .tv is another one you can have fun with because you can do something like this: as-seen-on.tv :D well, you get it right?
Good luck. :)

Hey Taj,
I get my domains from an Australian registrar www.1cheapdomains.com for $8.95. Their support has been exemplary esp when NetSol tried to block the transfer of my own domain name to myself.
Where in India are you located? I will be in India (Bombay mainly) in the month of January. PM me if you want me to help you in any way.

You can book a domain at www.net4domains.com and pay in Rupees. A .com domain is Rs. 495/- and a .biz or .info domain is Rs. 510/-. After u get yr domain, I'll tell u where to host it. Best of luck.
