I have added new services since I registred with DMOZ, should I now go into each catagory and register there also? What does DMOZ call spamming so I don't overdue it?
SoftDesigns is currently only listed under 'Top: Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers' and there are to many others in there so I assume my ratings won't be very good until I submit to more catagories; is this true?
Thanks,
WW

I (just me) would send an email to the editor of the category like this.
Dear <editor>,
I am the website owner of http://url.com listed in <category link> with the listed title of <title>. We were originally listed <@date> in DMOZ, and have since rolled out several new services to the public that we were hoping could be incorporated into our description somehow. If you could possible take a quick look at our listing, and if you think it would be appropriate please try to incorporate some of our newer services such as :
service #1
service #2
service #3
It would really make my day!
Thanks for your time, I know how busy you must be.
Sincerely,
name
Make sure whatever letter you write includes your url link, category link, and title listed so the editor can find it quickly and easily.

newriver, by the time I got up DMOZ to see exactly what categories to put SoftDesigns under I just submitted there; wow there are so many new categories:) and descriptions for each, too:up::bouncy:
I left my email address with each submission; I'm assuming that they will get back to me if my site is not accepted in that category, right? If not accepted than I can appeal, right?

hey WW, normally you will not hear from them if accepted or not. You have to wail a month or two and just keep checking in your category. IF not accepted at that time, you simply submit again...

....no magic wand will help :) I saw they need an editor to review most catagories I submitted under :(

well, if they need editors there, then you will wait awhile most of the time.

Please excuse me for jumping in, but I just had to ask a couple of questions.
I submitted to dmoz several months ago to category that had no editor (no editor for the parent category as well) I finally saw on my logs yesterday a hit from
http://dmoz.org/editors/editunrev2.cgi
First question; how long, on average, does it take for your site to show up in the directory after an editor has reviewed it?
2nd question; If you have not been accepted what is dmoz’s policy on resubmitting and spam?
Thanks in advance for any help

Welcome to the forums lots0cash! :hi:
Yep. That was an editor. If accepted, I will give it a few days to appear in the directory. You will not be able to do a search and find it, but it should be in the directory.
Your other question should be answered maybe by newriver as I do not know for sure.

Howdy lotsocash,
Listings will appear instantly in the directory category if listed, as Doug (ihelpyou) stated you will not see it by searching dmoz.org for quite awhile sometimes.
In terms of resubmitting, if you submitted the site one time several months ago, and it is still not listed, feel free to submit it to the category one more time. Just don't submit a bunch of times to the same category in a short amount of time.
Good luck to you.

If you were going to submit your site to
Games/Gambling/Lotteries/Directories
make sure you have enough unique content, and that you are not simply taking your content from other sites. They may not list you if you are, and if I were you I would go ahead and resubmit in a week after you have added much more unique content.
Note: Let's say hypothetically you submitted once, saw an editor visit, and did not appear. Probably a good chance you did not make it in. If I were you, the next time I submitted, when i was writing a recommended description I would put something like this in it.
"Recommended description"
Note: To the volunteer editor reviewing this site, I had submitted this a couple months ago, and thought I would submit it again today because it may not have been accepted last time. I have added a bunch of unique content over the past few months, could you please take another look at it for me to see if it is acceptable. I sincerely appreciate it.

First I want to thank you all for the responses.
Actually I submitted to Games: Gambling: Lotteries: Directories.
newdriver – You are right (and very tactful) my site does not have a lot of unique content right now.
I pulled a lot of content so I could put up info about scum advertisers. Putting up the info about the scum also cost me some great placement with google. (My main page was in the top 3 for several of my targeted keywords/phrases.) Please don’t get me wrong I am not complaining, the info on scum will stay up, at least for a while.
I will also be adding info on www.atfia.org
Thanks again for the info and feedback.

If the category you are submitting to is a ways down the tree, it is not unusual for their to be no editor listed - however, that doesn't mean there is no editing going on. Any editor who has privileges in a category directly above your category has privileges in all categories below. I would work my way up the tree and find the first category with an editor listed and write to them.

I saw LotsOcash having trouble getting into the gambling section of DMOZ.
I have been trying since March to get my clients site into:
http://dmoz.org/Games/Gambling/Guides_and_Strategies/
Matter of fact I just resubmitted it today.
www.casinogoldbook.com
The category does not have an editor, but I don't know where else to put it.
I think it's a great site. It is to promote an actual book he wrote.
So don't feel bad LotsOcash, because it is going on a year and I am not in, and I have not spammed anyone.
Does anyone know if there is another category I should put www.casinogoldbook.com in?
Thanks!

Being that Gambling is one the most popular and competitive categories on the Internet there is probably a backlog of sites waiting to be reviewed...as for that category not having an editor, editors higher up in the gambling category manage and maintain that category...
Lead--another possible category--> Games: Gambling: Publications (just an idea)
