LookSmart will now take the helm in the UK and Japan, the two countries where BT LookSmart operated. It wil also incorporate "parts" of BT LookSmart into core operations. It says it emerges from the restructure "substantially debt-free".

well, lets hope we dont all get "legged over" and pushed into ppc upgrades!

It will be interesting to see what they say to their UK customers.

Looksmart UK already has a PPC element to it, mainly aimed at larger e-commerce type sites. I use it for one client at a fixed cost of 20p per click ! If you think that's steep, they offered it at 25p a click initially.

This is a different 'product' (God, I hate that word) from BidSmart, which is also PPC.

I can see them expanding this in the near future.

Yep, although, I was refering to their submit a site product (£149 one off fee)

I wont go over old turf, but we all know what l$ .com did to their customers, i just hope that this recent announcement doesnt mean that they will now do the same to people who signed up for the uk version.

Oh well, it was good while it lasted! Who on earth is going to pay out for a listing now until this is sorted out. We all know what L$ did - now they have free reign here!

LookSmart helps businesses of all sizes harness the power of Search Marketing to generate cost-effective sales leads. LookSmart search listings enable businesses to reach 77 percent* or nearly four out of five U.S. Internet users
I want to know how they can claim that figure? They are sooo damn full of it.

Losers. Always will be losers.

I got an e-mail from BT Looksmart letting me know that they are closing down bidsmart in the UK.

"British Telecommunications plc and LookSmart Inc have decided to end the BTLookSmart joint venture agreement. As a result, the operations of BTLookSmart in the UK will now be managed by LookSmart Inc and, in order to align technology and operations more closely with LookSmart, the distribution network in the UK will now be focused on MSN. This constitutes a small reduction on the current distribution network volumes.

With regards to BidSmart, we will no longer be taking bookings from new customers, and it is anticipated that BidSmart itself will be shut down by mid January 2003. Any credit balances for BidSmart will be returned after this takes place. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your continued support of BidSmart."

Not sure I like the phrase "...in order to align technology and operations more closely with LookSmart [.com]....". I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Well at least you will be getting your 'BidSmart' money back!

As for people who have just paid for the regular listings we will have to wait and see....PPC anyone?

Any idea what the future for LookSmart UK is?

Their current search result are a bit crappy.
