It has been mentioned here that not everyone has the time to be an editor on a directory and we know that, at this time of year, time is even more at a premium. For these people, we are offering Speed-Pass.

Speed pass is a paid submit choice that offers a review within two business days, help in finding the best topic for your site, and top-level editor attention to the title, description, and features. Assuming the site is approved, it will stay listed as long as it continues to meet our guideline standards. It cannot be edited, moved, or removed by any editor not on the reviewing committee.

Of course we still welcome everyone who has the time and desire to become an editor. The number of volunteer editors at JoeAnt is increasing steadily and they are busy adding great resources for our visitors.

Nice look Jerry. That should be a nice option for those needing quick listings.

Very nice to see joeant adding this feature. Some webmasters need their site(s) reviewed very fast and offering this option meets those needs.

Nice improvement to an already excellent directory!

Cheers!

Tony and Zag, thanks for the supportive comments and thanks to everyone else here who has shown so much support and confidence in our directory.

We've been pleased with the response from site owners too. Jerry put up the Speed-Pass late in the evening, by the next morning we already had over a dozen submissions...and this was before we had a chance to make any announcement regarding the new option.

We're expecting this to only increase now that the word is out. Considering all the comments we've read about this SE being too large and powerful or that directory being too impersonal, it sounds as though the personal attention that JoeAnt and GoGuides can offer is what many site owners are looking for.

I'm so excited, can you tell? :)

We have a Holiday Special until January 1st for the Speed-Pass submissions. We changed the regular $39.99 price to $24.99.

Very nice too! I've had three approved listings, however I applied to the wrong category :(

My main subject Weddings and DJs (Disc Jockeys) is where I should be - any chance of a move???

BTW - This forum is really very attractive. Probably one of the best around.

David,

you can't change between topics you applied for.

You can always mail me or you can reach me through our private messenger at JoeAnt.com.

If you want to submit sites for another topic you can mail them to me with descriptions, title, and icons and I will add them for you (if not against the guidelines)

Is there any no-cost submittal process? I don't mind if it takes a few weeks to show up, and paying is something i'm trying to avoid.

Any options?

Yes, you can submit for free (http://www.joeant.com/suggest.html) . Just find the category that is most appropriate.

You have to become an editor. :-)

So if you don't want to be an editor, it costs $40.00 to get listed?

Joeant's listing don't even count towards pagerank, so why even bother?
It's not like Joeant has much traffic to pass on...

Sorry so negative, but it's true!

Even DMOZ started small. We see our selves as an easy way to get your sites listed and for free. Your site will after being listed also have a link in google etc. The more we grow the more pages we get with a PR 4 or 5.

Hugo

PS I read other things on http://www.improvedsearchenginerankings.com/submissions.htm , one of your sites.

It's not like Joeant has much traffic to pass on...
Are you sure about that?

But, if you feel it's not worth your time to become an editor, or not worth the fee to have someone else list your site(s) for you, then your only other choice is not to use Joeant. We're hoping that the latter is not the choice people make but it will not stop us from growing. Who knows, if you wait long enough one of our editors mighy just find the site(s) and add them to our database. Stranger things have happened.

Joeant just started charging, I haven't updated that page in a while.

Let me just say: I am all for Joeant, I think its great, and a great idea, but Dmoz.org NEVER charged.

I just think there should still be a free submission, since it's still "up and coming."

There is still a free submission: become an editor. Just apply and you're in. We also have a special arrangement available for serious SEO's.

We started to ask for a charge because the submission queue was getting too big (and mostly with real trashy sites and descriptions). DMOZ don't charge but they have a queue of over 1 million sites, if you want to wait that long go ahead :-)

Just for clarity, that special arrangement is not offered instead of joining. SEO's will need to add some sites and show they understand the ontology and our guidelines before a special arrangement can be implemented.

Becoming an editor and submitting sites yourself will get them listed much faster than if we had continued taking webmaster submissions. The only thing it will cost you in becoming an editor is time. And if you follow our guidelines the time it takes will be minimal.

Just because we are "up and coming" doesn't mean we had to continue being tormented with a massive sludge of less than adequate submissions. The way it is now is better for everyone and far more productive.

Help us help you. :)

I can understand why some would be upset about Joeant.com not having a free submit form. It's something we were hoping could stay up. It's something we could very easily put back up. Problem is, our setup doesn't make much room for it. With 20+ editors joining each day compared to the number of editors we have that have reviewing rights, the free form submissions would never make it to review. It's not something we hoped for. Having it up now will just upset webmasters wondering why we never added their site. When in reality, it was just buried behind the editor submissions that already take almost all of our time. Our editor submissions are our top priority. Even though we get the Speed Pass submissions reviewed in time as promised, those have even started to become time consuming. We're very excited about our growth. We just need rest. A lot of rest.

We actually submitted a few sites to Joe Ant a few months ago for some clients, before the paid submission process and we have actually been pleasantly surprised with the results from one client site in particular. The site in question is for Lauren Hutton's Good Stuff makeup and we got over 400 visitors in December and currently about 1.4 orders a day b/c of Joeant. That is much better then DMOZ..which incidentally hasn't listed the site yet even though it was submitted nearly 5 months ago. Just thought this was something the joeant staff might be interested in knowing. We haven't tried the paid listing service yet, but it is something to consider. Just as long as you guys promise not to do a Yahoo and start charging yearly.

Thanks for the feedback, webgator, it's exciting!

I can't see any reason why we would ever charge a yearly fee for being listed. The current submission fee is for those who don't want to join and contribute to building an exceptional directory. It cost our editors nothing except their time to add their own site and any others they might find useful to our users. Well, it can cause them some grief if their sites do not comply with our guidelines but a paid submission has no guarantee either. Those who do choose to use the paid submission should read our guidelines very carefully before paying.

Since we still list sites for free and our database is growing daily, it would be difficult to start charging a yearly rate to those who haven't asked for their sites to be in our directory, which I'd say is well more than half of our current listings. Yearly fees would be almost impossible to implement without a backlash we'd prefer to avoid.

BTW, the Lauren Hutton site will do well even if dmoz never lists it. :)
