I was chatting to the Adwords team yesterday about CTR's and started talking about the ability to remove your Adwords listing from the Adwords 'Syndicated Partner Sites'.

I am curious to find out if anyone has actually played around with the Syndication Preference option in Adwords to try and ascertain what level of traffic is coming directly from Google listings as opposed to one of the partners: America Online, Inc.CompuServe, Netscape, AT&T Worldnet, EarthLink, Inc. & Sympatico Inc.

If anyone has any information I'd be interested to hear it!

The secondary reason for looking for information concerns the point that (as far as I can tell from what they've told me) Google uses only their own CTR's (from google.com) as the internal trigger to disable keywords when the actual CTR on your account may show as higher because it includes the syndicated partners stats.

If you can follow all that let me know what your experiences are :D

Hi there:

We can get this info directly from our stats program, since Google doesn't break it out. Here is our latest stats listing:

ask.com
google.com
yahoo.com
aol.com
msn.com
overture.com

The ask.com, google and aol ads are via google, and the yahoo msn ads are via overture. So we get most of our traffic via ask jeeves, then direct from google.

Although I wish Google was able to provide stats by engine....

Hi Gary :hi:

We use the syndication option for most of our U.S. clients but remove it for all others. I have noticed that the figures are quite a bit higher when syndicated, but the CTR rises with it, so that's fine. I think it really depends on your client's market - for example, the people using AOL and Earthlink are generally stay-at-homers or Mom and Pop shops - so retail clients would want to target these, but B2B may not. Hope this helps :).
