Hello!
Could someone point me to where I could get the command line structure for the various search engines - i.e. if my software connects to the search engine direct, what needs to appear in the query? Does this vary with different search engines? Also, can the results be retrieved directly rather than on the usual web page?
Many thanks,
Graham

Hi Graham and welcome to the forums :hi:
Unfortunately you have not made it clear exactly what it is you want help on.
What is it that you are trying to achieve ?
Are you wanting help on submitting to the SEs? If so then DMOZ is your first port of call if you want a listing on Google, though you can of course just try submitting to Google direct.
The bots sent out by the engines will eventually find your site - I don't know of any way of getting a "command line structure" - to what purpose?
Greg
Also why not put your site URL up so we can see where you are coming from.

Welcome to the forums Graham! :hi:
I think what he wants is the command line to query the se databases.
Simply do a search at the search engines and that would be your line. Note they don't like someone automatically quering them so do so at your own risk.

I would agree wholegeartedly Doug.
I can just imagine the Google engineers sending back a terse automated reply such as " P.O.Q. or else!" :D

Hello everyone,
Thank you for your warm welcome - it is appreciated.
I apologize for not making my question a little clearer. What I want to find out is how to format the query string when submitting it to a given search engine - i.e. the bits after the '?' I've had a look at Google, but can't seem to find a reference, though it's probably staring at me.
I am looking at the possibility of writing a program to check link popularity - mainly as an exercise for my own benefit, but don't know where to start.
Any help or suggestions gratefully received.
All the best,
Graham.
