Wow! I was wondering when someone would make a tool that used Google's API interface! I wonder if there's a way to know for sure that's how they do it...

Yes it is cause you have to get an API number from googles website or the search will not work...
Pretty neat little program

Darn. I just ran it and it wasn't accurate. Said I had no ranking for search engine optimization for highrankings.com and yet I'm 22. :(
I told it to query 30 results. Plus it gave me results in the 70's for some phrases, even though I only queried 30 results!
Hopefully they will work out the bugs if it is to be useful. Gonna check on the other results they gave to see if they're accurate.

That thought crossed my mind. They probably have a different database for API queries. But if so, it doesn't look good for my site and that keyword phrase! ACKK!
So, I'll go with the software is in training for now!

Great Find!
I'm may use this tool to produce reports for customers.
<added>Yep, some are accurate and others are not. What a waste of money! Wait a second, it's free! :p
It's kinda cool to run an API query though. I hope we'll see more API queries become available. Are there any other API tools that I don't know about?

Doug, aren't you gonna get banned running that thing at Google?
(Looks accurate at first glance!)

Could someone explain what this tool does exactly, and what an API search is?

This tool is a piece of software that you install on your own computer that allows you to check the rankings of a webpage URL you input, using specific keywords you also inout, against Googles database, through the use of their API.

API stands for Applications Programming Interface.
API's are usually provided in sets to allow programmers to access the functionality of a piece of software in order to use it in another context.
In this case, the API's belong to Google and are used by developers to access search results programmatically in order to create tools / search engines.

Are we certain Google would be happy with anyone running this program -- even though it does use their APIs? The website has a PR0.
The program cannot be sold according to the terms of the Google API set.

Hi Kaj,
I believe the site and product are brand new, thus the PR. Also, it's free, they're not selling it so they're not going against any rules. Everyone gets their own API license to run it. It's a GREAT idea! Too bad it doesn't work accurately. I hope they fix it up as it would be nice to check Google now and then without having to break their TOS.

Hi Jill,
Good response; I admit I spoke to soon -- I did not realise it required an individual API key to run, thus enforcing the Google-specified 1000 queries/day. That would make the difference.
If its accuracy problem is fixed, this will indeed become a wonderful tool.
Warm regards,

I wrote this one (it uses the Google API)...just wondering what you guys think of it.
of course, this is the prototype, I plan on adding some more features to it...probably isn't as good as the one you mentioned (yet!).
www.top25web.com (http://www.top25web.com)
Let's say, for example, you want to find out where the url "www.top25web.com" would rank
in the top "25" results on google if someone were to search for the keywords "web
developer". Then you would enter the following data into the form.

If I wanted to find that out, why wouldn't I simply go to Google?

...well, because i'm lazy I guess :-)
it shows just your matches after #10, and also tells you in a quick view what positions you ranked at for say "search engine optmization"...ie - position 2, 4, 23, 79.
I really gotta make it more like 500 or 1000 as the limit, rather tahn 25...problem is google limits the number of queries you can do per day.
I plan on making this work on Inktomi, and a few other search engines too.
If you can find out where you rank on all the search engines in one click....i think that would be valuable.

If you can find out where you rank on all the search engines in one click....i think that would be valuable That's different. Right now with just Google, there's not value. Just set your preferences for 30 or 100 at Google and you can see that all anyway.

...it's a little easier, knowing what positions you have without having to look at all the results.
