Dont know if you have read this: http://www.searchengineworld.com/newsletter/2001/

Sure would explain my great struggles to get decent rankings in MSN / Ink. Wish I had read it before they pulled the URL :(

Highman...I read it yesterday and was able to get on to the Inktomi database and saved what files I could get. I will see if I can upload them here. If not, email me and I'll attach them for you.

Jill

I tried attaching a zip file, but it didn't seem to work or I did something wrong.

I had heard this of Inktomi awhile ago with the SEO firm. Kept quiet until I knew for sure.

I have clients who have disappeared from the database for NO reason as well.

Could someone send me the database please? Thanks!

Doug, I'll email it to you. In my opinion, it's not as bad as Brett made it out to sound. (Unless I missed something.)

Maybe you missed some files involved? Those files are nothing but the list of known spammers and the hosts they are on.

We all know that each engine has a similar list they use. What is troubling is that Inktomi is now also an SEO. I believe we do not have all the files.

This caught my eye from a file:
SEO spammer. Some paid inclusion. linxpros.com aka advancedlinks.com aka firstlinx.com Reported to us by positiontech.com, our paid inclusion partner.
I wonder what they mean by the question they are asking? The question is the next sentence. I did not want to post it in here.

Doug,

It's very possible that I didn't have all the files. Some may have been removed by the time I got to them. I got what I could get. And those ones don't look all that incriminating. If there were more, Inktomi may have already removed them. It would have been good if Brett T. had copied all the files and posted them somewhere. But perhaps it was too much information to be able to save it all.

Danny has a good counter-point article on this issue at: http://searchenginewatch.com/subscribers/articles/0109-inktomi-spam.html

He confirmed my thoughts on the matter. Much ado about nothing, basically!

Oops! I forgot about that. Actually I didn't have to sign in...I think I had already signed in earlier today for a different article. So I was thinking that one was free.

But why the heck aren't you a paid subscriber, anyway???
