Fast / AllTheWeb is an excellent deep-crawling search engine. In most cases a well inter-linked site will only require the submission of the home page in order for the whole site to be spidered. This engine is very fast and indeed out to index alltheweb.

YES! Just like Google in that respect. Also, Lycos usually pulls from Fast and updates real soon after.
Pages are getting in after about 2-3 weeks after submitting now.

Has anybody heard anything about the paid inclusion Fast was beginning to roll out in Europe? I was wondering if this had been rolled out in the USA yet.

Hi tradman:
Fast will roll out a paid inclusion program soon in the US BUT it will be somewhat expensive.
You can download an Acrobat file from the AlltheWeb site which says that they will charge $100 per MONTH per site for up to 1000 pages and $500 per month per site for up to 4000 pages.

$100/month for 1000 pages works out to $12 per page/per month. But this would probably only be economical for sites with much content, or much money!~

HI JH -
Must have been late when you posted that !!
I make 100/1000 =0.10 per month per page, BUT there are very few sites that will hit the 1000 page limit. A 100 page site will cost $1.00 per page per month. A fifty page site will cost cost $2.00 per page per month or $24 per page per year, but since FAST usually does a pretty good job of deep crawling I would much prefer something like the INK paid submission so that you could just submit one page an let it crawl the rest. But INK does not work that way they seem to crawl only the pages paid for.
Bottom line - everyone will have to use their best judgement -
AS Always.

LOL, I'm not sure where that math came from...it was late indeedy!~ Yes, I suppose the true test will be the traffic. Personally I'll pass, as FAST is very good at deep crawling...and I'm just not sure about their traffic volume.

I think that FAST is the clear winner over Google in the Deep Crawl stakes. Despite the claims that Google is the deep crawler of the deep crawlers, I have found FAST to be way superior.
On the subject of FAST (Which really is fast becoming my favourite engine, even over Google) does anyone think that their recent announcement of the 9 to 12? day reindexing will encourage others to do the same? I'd like to think so but you never know. I'm not sure Google would rise to the challenge as they seem quite happy with their exisiting unique traits. Any thoughts?

Well, the engines that already have things in place will probably not go to faster indexing. As we know Inktomi is used by MSN, Hotbot, iWon, AOL, Looksmart, etc and they all have their current indexing methods.
You are right, Google will not change anything they are doing at all, which is working, and will most likely continue to work for along time.
Excite seems to be the one who is sparatic now and needs to take notice of the others.
