I don't have much $$ at all, but really need help on my main page. It's really pretty pathetic. I know what keywords/phrases I need to use, but it just sounds/looks like crap, or just being written for search engines. Does anyone know what the average rate is for one page/250 words or so?

For SEO writing you'd be looking at anywhere from $125 all the way up to $1000+ per page. Depends on who you ask, how much experience they have, and how well they can write.

A good place to look for freelance work is www.elance.com. You post your project and suppliers bid on it. I have used it several times for different projects with good results.

Prices will range from $0 (your cousin) to over $25,000 per page (Dan Kennedy). You get what you pay for. The guy who was writing Yanik Silver's copy was going very cheaply (I think around $1000 a page) once upon a time.
Jill knows a really good SEO copywriter.
