I know this is the wrong forum to post this in, but someone quickly try to get to my website and see if you can reah it? I think it is down and I have a huge e-mail going out in 15 mn's about it around the office. If it is the host company, can anyone suggest a good host that has a guaranteed good up time?

Yes, it's down from here.

Putting the thread in this forum will give you many good hosts to look at. :)

It's up at this time tyler_durden.

Here's a good resource where you can ask questions about any host that you are considering:

Hi Tyler,

It does give you a nasty feeling when it happens and your first response is to panic and want to try to do something. I know it has happened to me TWICE now in the past seven months - the first time it was half an hour and right now I have been down for about 10 minutes.

But let's be fair to the host and find out what has happened as soon as it is reasonably possible to do so. There are a host of things that can go wrong to cause it and NOBODY will guarantee that they can keep your site up for a full 100% of the time.

If you have been happy about the remainder of the service you get, quick attention to queries, good provision of a wide range of services etc. etc. then I would wait just a little before I jumped over to a new host. :)

If, however, other aspects of their service are lousy then by all means loook around for a better one. You might like to look at Deb's service (Savvy1)

<< During the last few hours the network has been under a form of DOS attack.

This has effected a large number of dtatcenters around the US.

Unfortunately this is something that will happen from time to time. I would personally like to thank the data canter staff for putting up with my persistent phone calls and their work in getting things up and running.

Thank you to everuone for their patience and undestanding in this matter.

For a graphical look at the situation you may use this url: http://www.globalcompass.com/network-stats.htm>>

Just got this message in from my support 3 minutes after I sent off a query.

Might explain YOUR problem Tyler.

Yeah, I just was sent an email from the NOC where my server is and they said that service might slow down as there is a major US backbone attack currently happening and has been the situation for 2 hours now.

It's down again! I know there is a worm making it's way around today, and that's understanding. But google has been on my site over the last 18 hours before this indexing it completely. What happens now when google cannot reach it? Could I be dropped from the index for a month or 2? Does google take things like this into consideration?

We've been dropped for a failure to renew our domain. (YIKES! We were victims of NetSol spam for other domains, forgetting that our domain was actually registered with them. Since moved everything to GoDaddy, and only use them for domain registration. Plus, their automatic renewal feature is great.) We were back in the index after the next cycle.

I don't think we've ever been dropped for not being available due to an outage, but I do know we have some smaller sites that made me think they might have been dumped from the index when Google couldn't get through to them during the indexing. Anyone have the definitive answer?
