Welcome to the forums Richard! :hi:

Paid from first sale? That would be tough. You may find an up and coming seo with few clients who might go for that. There are always many out there who are just starting out and need clients.

That said, read up in here from many SEO's. Some are new and some have been doing this for years.

Good luck to you!

Richard,

There are a few things that you could do yourself, that an SEO would recommend before they even start. The first is to find a host for your site, rather than under geocities. Secondly, you need a lot more content if you are going to compete in this arena. Dietary and bodybuilding supplements are a huge industry online, with cutthroat competition. So, you have a huge task ahead of you, and most of your competitors don't play fair (or nice).

However, securing a host and increasing your content are the two best recommendations I can give you to start.

hmm. Yes. I did not notice that. Most SEO's would not take a client with a geocities hosted site. Matt's right. Find a real web host first.

seo guy thanks for the help i will extend my content ,as far as a host im paying for the geocities plus option with 25mb diskspace, 5mb bandwith, site statistics etc, woudnt that be enough???
as far as competition i can compete fairly well ( i have the contacts).all i need is exposure.
unfortunately at his time i cannot afford 300-500 visits a day with .07cents per click.(from adwords).
so my motto at this time is "i make money you make money"as a partnership thing.

Hi Richard, I think what Matt is advising is that you get an actual domain name and have it hosted by a real web host. No, sorry ... geocities does not fall into that category.

An online business in order to be taken seriously must establish a level of trust between them and the potential client.

The way trust is established is by the level of commitment you are showing to the business you are trying to establish, i.e., domain name, hosting, 1-800 number for contact (optional), email address for contact (necessary) plus you'd need to setup a payment processor for your orders.

There have been studies done that you might wish to read up on about what website credibility is and how to establish it. I've posted the links to it in other threads in here, just do a forum search (chat area, web hosting area) for Internet credibility studies.

Once you've managed to commit to a domain name, real web hosting, payment processor, and adding more content to the site, then an SEO might take you seriously enough to "help you" with optimization.

However, I wouldn't count too much that you'll find an SEO who's any good that will be willing to work now and "maybe" get paid later.

There have been far too many web designers, SEOs, SEMs, etc., that have been burned at one time or another under these types of "good faith" deals and therefore everyone and anyone with an ounce of brains stays away from it as far as they can get.

Good Luck. :)

I have to echo what savvy1 has said. Geocities is not hosting - it is the same as having a neon sign saying 'I'm doing this on the cheap'!

Similarly, good SEOs get money up front. Give me one good reason why I should spend, in time and fees, several thousand dollars to promote your website and (maybe) share your profits. I would be better off starting my own website and doing it for myself. In fact, everytime someone asks for a deal like the one you are offering, I check to see if there is money in that area and do precisely that if it is worth it and I have the time :)

Fact is, why should I bankroll your start-up business? Surely that is what financial institutions are for. If you were starting a delivery service would you ask a truck manufacturer for a truck which you will pay for when you start making a profit? Well, you might - but I'm pretty sure I know what the reply would be.

However, you may get a novice to do what you are asking - but don't expect the 'guru' you are asking for on other fora!

My advice is get a proper host, think about developing decent content, work out a marketing plan and if you can't afford SEO spend time here reading and reading on how to do it yourself.

Good luck :hi:

One more thing to add to the great advice already given here...

You will want to focus on keyword phrases, not one-word keywords. The words you are trying to rank high with won't bring you targeted visitors looking for exactly what you sell. They will bring in all sorts of people (if you couldn't even get a high ranking) and you won't make sales.

Target specific keyword phrases for best results.
