Hi,

I am originally from Holland but moved to Canada before I even got on the web. So I don't know too much about the web surfers out there.
How do searchers in the netherlands search? When they are looking for internet services, are they more likely to search for english or dutch terms? When I do a search on dutch search engines, I see many sites that are half dutch half english.

If I would want to start targeting dutch search engines, would it be better to translate my site into dutch as well? Is there actually dutch terms for words like "link popularity" and "search engine optimization"?

Maarten,

I think that it is totally depending on what you are offering to the public. As you might know in Holland we easily take over english terms and names and incorporate that into the Dutch language and in your case I would say that will be the case.
i.e. we downloaden een programma, ik heb een error op mijn pagina

Linkpopularity and search engine optimization are words which are created thru the use of the Internet and in my opinion will mainly be used as such. A search on Google.nl however also shows the word as link populariteit. If I where you I would buy a nl. domain and use the Dutch terms here and I would keep the English term on your .com site.
