This may be old news to the forum but here goes...
Yesterday, 2/8/03 while searching through MSN for keyphrases of mine, I got a very polite popup survey by MSN. I took the survey and noticed many questions related to the quality of search results in thier engine. My got instinct told me they were questions related to paid listing results vs regular web page results. Is it possible that they may be getting wise to the fact that people are going to Google more often for a more unbiased and relevant search?

They HAVE to know their SERPS Suck! Check this:
http://search.msn.com/results.asp?RS=CHECKED&FORM=MSNH&v=1&q=search+engine+optimization
Infospider is the partner of AltaVista for paid inclusion. The very first listing is Overture and is proboostgold.com. Guess who owns that web site? Yep. Infospider does. Look down a few positions and you come to infospider.com on the same page and is a Looksmart listing.
Further, look at ALL those listings on the first page of SERPS. Give me just one of them that is a good one? Of course, Microsofts spammy bCentral is the first listing.
It's all BullCrap.
And they wonder why the majority of users like Google? Give me a break.

Thanks Doug,
I see what you mean and understand completely. However, you mentioned bcentral as spammy. This has been the only tool I have used aside from good optimizing techniques and careful manual submissions to the major directories. Is there even a remote possibility I could be penalized by Google for using this program to promote my clients?

Ummm....spammy? I'd love to hear why. Last time I checked our spammy tool was the *original* submission tool. Long before the advent of other tools. Most engines even listed us on their submission page at their own free will. Now it's been expanded to spider the users site checking the optimization. While spidering it also checks for most of the common spam techniques and warns the user.
And the #1 listing, come on! We are number 4 on Google for the same search. Plus, try "web site marketing" or "search engine rankings" or "search engine registration" In fact, we usually have better positioning at Google.
The forum owner dissing specific products? That's not something I'm used to. I'm used to the boards where they have that under control.

Hi Tom,
See above about the spam issue. I can assure you that nothing Submit It! helps you with is spammy. In fact, it will warn you if you were to do something spammyin your code by accident.

CraigFifield and Doug,
I mis- spoke referencing bcentral as spammy...I think the thread was regarding the MSN search engine and not the service submit it!
I stand corrected.

Hey Craig, Doesn't submitit automatically submit to a bunch of web sites? Submission should always be done by hand.
btw, we will call a product or service anything in here. I've just heard from many that the automated thing by bcentral generates spam. Anything automatic like that could not be a good thing.
