Hello,

First, if you didn't see the in-depth analysis of Gimpsy, by C. J. Newton from SEO Logic (http://www.seologic.com), you may be interested to read it here (http://www.seologic.com/optimization-ranking-submission/gimpsy.php) .

Yesterday, we announced some major changes and enhancements to Gimpsy on our Forum (http://forum.gimpsy.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=newsannounce). But we know that this is not where you go very often - so here are the highlights:

The directory structure is now totally transformed. While still fully dynamic internally, generating search results that meet the user's preferences, it appears to be a static, classic style, directory.
The structure is in the traditional 'tree' style, and the URL is meaningful too. Even Winnie the Pooh would figure out what sites are in http://www.gimpsy.com/dir/Buy/books.
The change means, of course, that it is now very easy for spiders to crawl and index Gimpsy - there is no danger of getting the same page several times - as happened before.
The TITLE of each page now reflects the category. This is very handy for both Search Engines and users that may wish to bookmark a particular place. Thus, for example, the above category is titled 'Gimpsy - Buy > books'.
All the links to sites in the directory are now plain, simple links. Once the spider will collect them - there should be no problem in getting the coveted 'back link' from Gimpsy.
Gimpsy allows keyword searching for some time now (well, a month is a long time :) ). A small enhancement makes it easy for site owners to find their site in the directory. For example (chosen randomaly), any of the following strings can be used to find the specific site:
* http://www.gimpsy.com
* www.gimpsy.com
* gimpsy.com
* gimpsy
We would like to help users uncover many of the gems in the Gimpsy directory. We started by declaring one category as the 'Category of the week' - straight on the Home Page. This week's category has only one site in it - but what an amazing site this is! Go on - see for yourself (http://www.gimpsy.com/dir/Visit/salon/)!

Hope you like the new features. :cool:

Hey Scottie,

Love your latest "carrot character" was this your own work ? :D

MC Seeing you are here, you might like to have a look at your submission process. Tried several times to "suggest a site" according to your instructions but kept being sent back to the category I was trying to submit to. A loop somewhere in your coding??

Hi Greg!

Nope, this little self-portrait came from a image subscription thing. I think it is too funny!

Mordechai- no more nail-biting! Jill already sent her newsletter just a short while ago. I bet your editors are going to be busy!

Hi Kneelsit,

I'm not MC :p but are you clicking on "assign categories" after picking the one you want to place the site in? That should take you to the next screen where you can leave a message for the editor and type in the code thingie.

We are still getting suggestions as I type so it's working for others. Give it another try and if you still have problems, let us know and we'll look into it.

Hello everyone!

Jill, thanks for the mentioning in the newsletter! As always - the surge in site submission (we call it 'suggestions') is several times the daily average. Now, if only they would READ the Help file (http://www.gimpsy.com/gimpsy/doc/faq/faq_suggest_site.php)... wouldn't it be wonderful?? :) We are turning down many sites - and it's a waste of their time and ours. I guess it will take some time for the general public to appreciate that we are simply different.

Thanks all for your positive and encouraging remarks. It is heart warming and appreciated.

Please do not hesitate to ask from us even higher and better search results - we strive on challenges!

Hello!

I thought I'll let you know some outcomes of our change in the directory structure:
- Gimpsy now has a PR of 6 in the Home Page. It used to have it, lost it, now gained it again. I believe that it is here to stay.
- In previous months many of our visitors came directly to Gimpsy, having heard about it somehow. Recently we experience a high degree of referrals from Search Engines (Google and Yahoo mainly). This can be attributed to very high ranking on some of the search phrases people have used. The log files show thousands of search phrases used to reach us. To give you an idea, all the following rank among the first 5 search results:

adopt a virtual horse (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=adopt+a+virtual+horse)

apply job (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=apply+job)

design your own amusement park (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=design+your+own+amusement+park)

find a bride (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=find+a+bride)

i want to buy airline ticket from nigeria to spain (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=i+want+to+buy+airline+ticket+from+nigeria+to+spain)

report scams (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=report+scams)

send telegram (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=send+telegram)

Visit salon (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=Visit+salon)

watch animation (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=watch+animation)

yellowbox shoes (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=yellowbox+shoes)

Clearly, those phrases (except last one) are 'Gimpsy style', but it seems that there are still people out there who search like that :)

The more technically oriented among you may notice that the number of pages in Google from Gimpsy is very low at the moment. Fear not, it's just a transition period - the old pages are out but the new one are not yet in. Expect a significant increase after the next 'dance' (I can see it coming ...)

Meanwhile - have a great day!

MC
