I found this site out of curiosity to see if DMOZ owned that URL, and was confronted with this generic search engine/directory that is powered by........ you guessed it! FindWhat.com

Check these out- (you may have to copy/paste)

http://www.findwhat.com/results.asp?DC=25&MT=taxes&filter_pref=0

and

http://www.odp.org/s?k=taxes&t=1046145388036

I've come across these generic sites numerous times before where they take a pretty decent domain name, or a mis-spelling of a domain name or alternate spelling of a domain name.... and turn it into a portal for FindWhat.

I'm sure most of you must have run across one of these sites before, with that generic looking logo that is on all of them.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out the kind of methods many of the smaller PPC's use to get traffic.

I'm wondering if FindWhat ownes them, or if its just some sort of partner, but there are hundreds of them i'm sure, i've run across dozens in my browsing over the past few months.

About the only info you get out of whois is that the DNS servers are listed as ultsearch.com.

First item listed in a Google search:

http://www.expiredtraffic.com/index.php?page=ultsearch

<snippet>
As the story goes, Ultsearch operates a PPC (pay-per-click) business based in Hong Kong that has a portfolio of over 50,000+ registered domains that it uses for this purpose.

things like this make me wary of using PPC nowadays...

I'm sticking to Overture, Google, Business.com, and Lycos (occasionally) if I use PPC at all.

50,000+ registered domains that it uses for this purpose

I new they were doing this alot, but 50,000+ sheesh! Its a shame really, I would have liked to see FindWhat succeed, but if they partner with people like this, I think their future is pretty bleak
