When I check the number of pages indexed by Inktomi/MSN for several sites I manage, it is showing only two pages. I use "domain:www.mysite.com" to check. The reason I ask is that I'm trying to evaluate paid inclusion. I heard a rumor that if you submit just your homepage through paid inclusion Inktomi will not spider the rest of the site. On one of the sites that returned two pages listed, I had paid for inclusion of the home page. The others are not paid, and all have about 8-10 pages. Any idea what this means? Do you really have to pay for every page to get them included?

If you're not in a hurry, you may just want to wait and not pay. Inktomi does find pages and does add them. There's no need for paid-inclusion unless you're in a hurry, or are looking for 48-hour respidering so you can tweak your pages.

If you don't have a need for either of those things, then simply wait for them to find and index your site.

Thanks Jill. That's what I thought. But then why are only two pages showing up in the index? At least one of these sites has been up for nearly two years. Are the "domain:www.mysite.com" results accurate or should I look elsewhere (suggestions?) to determine which pages are included?

Try using Alan's tool (http://www.searchmechanics.com/look/look.htm). It usually finds all the pages. Sometimes with Ink it's hard to see the exact number included.

Thanks for the link to the tool. I just used it and it confirmed what I was seeing elsewhere. On each of four different domains, Inktomi only shows 2 pages indexed while Google shows all of them (8-10). Isn't that weird? These are four completely independent domains that have been live for various periods from 2 years to 3 months. Why didn't Inktomi index 3 pages on some, or just 1? but no it's exactly two. I just don't get it.
