ok, so as far as i understand, msn search is based on loosmart ppc, right?
whar about msn search? powered by inktomi? but how does one get into inktomi? what about google? does it partially power msn?
how does one get into msn search without paying?

Quick answer:

there are three main parts to the search results at msn.com:

sponsored sites - three per page, taken from overture.com . These are all payperclick.

web directory - these are from Looksmart.com - unless your site is non-commercial, you have to pay to be reviewed by Looksmart. You then pay 15c per click for each visitor.

web pages - these are the Inktomi results. Inktomi offer paid inclusion via positiontech.com and others, but you can get in for free as Inktomi's spiders will crawl your site if you have enough links from other sites already in their database.

No relationship between msn and Google at all. Thank god.
