Congrats Nitewing2
I have five pending submissions ranging in age from ten days to three months and so far no listings or replies to my emails.
But like you I did receive a not wanted notice when I applied twice as an editor for a category needing one.
I'm starting to believe that rumor that they automatically deny you if you have anything to do with SEO.

Mel,
The only connection I have with SEO is posting in these forums.
You would think they would have had the courtesy to explain and SIGN the letter....they should quit saying they need editors when obviously they don't!
Just my 2 cents.

Yeh...i once applied for a category buried deep in the catacombs with only six sites in it and was told I should select a smaller category!!!
It's a strange world

Thats one of the funny things Nitewing2, ODP has literally hundred of sites without editors and backlogs of work for existing editors such that a two or three month backlog is not uncommon, yet nine out of ten people posting regarding this on this forum have been rejected as editors by ODP.
I am of the opinion that the caliber of the average member here is quite high, so if we have a 90% rejection rate what must the rate be like elsewhere?

Congratulations nitewing2 :hi: !
Regarding the editor thing, I applied about a 2 months ago, with the excellent help of our moderator newriver, and am happy to say that I was accepted shortly thereafter.
The category I applied to was one of the "local" ones (just about at the end of the chain) and happens to be within the category for the city in which I reside.
I did make mention of the fact that I am a webmaster, though not particuarly related to SEO (I didn't actually say this last SEO bit in the application), and also mentioned that I was a member of our local Chamber of Commerce (the category I applied to was for "Business & Economy") and in the acceptance email I received, it was mentioned that my "candor" was appreciated.
I believe that newriver would be willing to help any of you in these forums interested in becoming an editor, and I for one, would find it very interesting to see if the "no SEO" theory holds true.

I, for one, would find it hard to believe that ODP would discriminate based on the fact that I choose SEO as my profession. I would think they would accept me with open arms especially if I was upfront and candid about what I did.
I actually wrote that I was an SEO in my application of a year ago as well. Was rejected for reasons I do not know. To me, being an upfront and honest and SPAM free SEO would have many advantages for DMOZ. Also to me, running a search engine forum that welcomes other SEO's with open arms would prove that I would not be Biased in ANY way to other Seo's or sites that may or may not be a competitor of mine. I could care less.
Don't know about other editors with ODP, but I do know that if I put my mind to it, my English and spelling DO stack up very well with the next guy.
I would truly love to know the reason/reasons I was rejected.

They really don't discriminate based on SEO, in fact there are several top level editors that are open about it.
I will say SEO people are probably watched a bit closer than others are.
editor applications are rejected most of the time because the category the person applied to is way to large. You should try to find a category with less than 20 sites to apply to.

Actually, becoming an editor for ODP is not one of my burning ambitions but, I thought, if they needed help I would offer my help to keep such a wonderful service up and running....Hey, if not that cat then they could have simply sent a list of those that are open and needy to choose from. Methinks they are not as needy as they make out to be...Great for them!
And Doug, I feel that I too am capable of good spelling and fairly good writing in an unbiased manner.
