Hi Jill
I was just reading your latest newsletter, and was surprised to see you talking about description tags.
I was told on this forum only a few weeks ago to forget about all meta tags, except perhaps for the keywords one.
Now I am confuse again.
I easily get confuse:D

I don't know where you read that
IMO the most important meta tags are:
Title
Description
Keywords
The keywords are the least important of the three but many people put them in 'just in case'.
There is a discussion going on in this (http://www.ihelpyouservices.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7786) thread.

Note that technically the title isn't a meta tag. It upsets a few people around here when it is classified as one. ;)

Ok  'technically' yep your right. While it's not a meta-tag, it is right next to them in the code so it's kinda close, right :D ?
But the value of the title is still the tops

Aussies-Online,
I recommend using meta tags. You never know what they engines will want next so for the few minutes to write them it is worth it. They are also a good place for misspellings. Plus, Inktomi still uses them and once in a while Google will use your meta description as your listings. It's good SEO form too. That being said, don't obsess over them. Just pop them in and move on.

The Title tag has always been important and always will be.
The Meta description tag is also important because many search engines show the information in it, within their results pages.
The Meta keyword tag is not all that important and it's more of a personal choice whether to use it. Some site-specific search engines do use this tag, however, so keep that in mind when deciding if you'd like to use it on your pages.

I always try to get one completely new thought each day. You provided it today. Whether or not the Meta tag Keywords is read by any given search engine, it's a great place to put mis-spellings. Wow, thanks indeed.
My other big item is singular and plural forms of words used in searches. I think this is so up-front and important that you need to consider this in what is read by all search engines - in other words, the Title, the Description and of course the text on the page.

Title is not only the most important tag, from an SEO standpoint it's the most important thing on the entire site...

Well, your title tag is not only important for SEO purposes, but - for those engines who DO use it in the search returns - it also becomes an important sales tool.
Make sure your title tag (and description tag, for that matter) are informative, enticing, and search engine friendly. (That's not TOO much to ask, is it?)
It's only the engines job to return results that match the searcher's criteria. It's OUR job - as site owners - to make sure they want to click our link ;)

Hi Jill
Looks like I got confuse again:D
Going back on the old postings, I was told not to worry about keywords and was also told that the revisit meta-tag was useless.
I think from there, I took for granted that all meta-tags were now useless. I have not removed them mind you. But I stopped going to the trouble of putting a description in there. So I guess, it is back to work.:(
I also had a good reason to ignore the meta description as I had noticed that Google was taking its information from the text on the page while ignoring the meta description.
It is only with my Homepage that Google has listed both the content of the page and the meta description.
