I thought we would replace the Excite forum with a forum dedicated to new search engines or any other search engine that does not fit another forum.

Good idea - now how do I get a site on to Teoma. Can't find an add URL link, emailed them with no response. I don't even know the name of their spider to see if it has followed links through other pages.

I do not think Teoma is officially up and running yet. Could be wrong but no visitors from them as yet.

Yeah, Teoma is still in Beta, but has plenty of sites on there and they've been bought by AskJeeves, so we can expect to see results turning up on there at the least. I want in and I want in NOW.

markmark, teoma seems to pick sites up from either ODP or INK. No submission page apparent.

spider ID= teomaagent1 [crawler-admin@teoma.com] and teomaagent crawler-admin@teoma.com

Following up on the Teoma thing. Got an email a couple of days back saying that they are not currently taking submissions, but that they would include the site I mentioned in my email in their data pool.

That's interesting. What email address did you use to do this?

From what I have seen to-date - Teoma originally crawled from links in ODP and these sites became their core database. A recent update took place on which sites which are not in the ODP (but are linked to by sites that were in the Teoma core database) have been added. I've even had a couple of referrals for B2C type enquiries - so some ordinary surfers are starting to use it somewhere!

I emailed Teoma at info@teoma.com and got the same reply as MarkyMark. A few weeks later I was listed.

Thanks LouiseB! Actually, if makemetop is correct, my sites should be there already. :)

The wonderful thing about the 'big' directories...you find your sites in other engines and databases

It's no extra work....a nice little surprise....now, lets see if they can deliver the goods (traffic)...

WiseNut and Teoma both look promising as new search engines. Especially as other engines become inundated with advertising and paid positioning. Rebellious surfers may be eager to switch in their quest for relevant quality and duty free search results!~

AskJeeves (http://ask.com/docs/about/tpr.html) acquired Teoma, so it may leverage/share existing technologies and traffic. They could even merge into one. WiseNut looks very sound technically, but no indication of traffic volume or source. If WiseNut could partner with a medium-high traffic source, it might prove competition for the big G!~ :eyes:

The smartest thing MSN could do would be to replace their search results with Teoma.

What do ya think, ahhh, I love the fantasy world.

If that happened for some reason, LS would be very hurting. What might be more realistic is if Teoma or Wisenut became the secondary search results provider of a few of the engines. The Inktomi database thing does not seem to be going well, so I have a feeling Ink may be losing interest. They are into so many other things that "search" might not be high on their priority list.

Over the next year, interesting things could happen.

Think about this. Inktomi started out with PositionTech as the only partner of PFI. Now, there are 3-4 of them? I have also been told that Ink is constantly looking for more partners.

My question would be, why do they need more? It seems to me that more exposure is needed for this program. It seems obvious that they are not getting as many paying pages as they originally thought they would. They come up with more and more benefits I guess, but things must be slow. Otherwise, why more partners? They have to pay the partners something. Things simply do not seem well.

Note that this is the whole company. "Search" may be a huge part of the losses.

And don't forget Anzwers seems to have dumped inktomi and are now using Yahoo/Google results. So is there some writing on the wall?
