hi,

I have a site, which is live since about 3 month now. We submitted the homepage in january and it has been indexed within the 48 hours.

I am wondering now, as we got already within the last 3-4 weeks a couple of times completely spidered, when we can expect that all our other pages (abuot 90) will be indexed as well, as we think this would make a huge difference in the traffic from inktomi powered sites.

Would be nice to hear from you.

daniel

p.s. at the moment just this one page is indexed

If you definitely want particular pages in the Inktomi index, you need to pay for them.

Otherwise, you sit and wait. They're not in any hurry to index those who don't pay, but will probably get to some of them eventually.

Hi Jill, thanks for your answer.

To index all 90 Pages would be a bit too expensive I guess :)

But as we got already spidered from inktomi 3times, all 90 pages, what would they do this for, if not for getting the site indexed?

In my experience if you submit to inktomi for free, I mean at the URL:

Inktomi/MSN add url (http://submitit.bcentral.com/msnsubmit.htm)

they include in the index just the page that you submit them.

And you can't submit more than one page for domain at day.

Probably the spider is checking the page periodically to verify its existence.

If you used the Inktomi pay per inclusion program they are simply refreshing your page in their index every 48 hours.

there must be somebody who knows the answer to my question?

All my other pages are indexed, but I never really cared how long it took, but somebody must have looked into it before me?

I've never wait less than one month

Sometime They've indexed a page two months after the submission.

After the second month I generally re-submit the pages, but to be brutally honest I have submitted certain pages three times and they are'nt in the index yet.

You sure they're not in? With Ink, it's often hard to find all the pages of your site that are indexed and often appears that your pages aren't in (when searching by domain) when they actually are in.

I forget what the exact syntax to use to check it for sure. Maybe:

site: www.yoursite.com ??? or domain: www.yoursite.com ???

Can't remember.

From Search Engine Watch:

URL Search

To find a particular URL listed in Inktomi's crawler-based index, you can use the "originurl:" command. Simply preface the URL you wish to locate with this command, such as:

originurl:http://searchenginewatch.com/webmasters/meta.html

If the URL is in the index, it will be displayed. This command has been tested to work on the following Inktomi-powered services:

AOL Search
GoTo
HotBot
The originurl command will bring up an individual URL listed in the Inktomi-powered results of these services. It does not work at iWon, LookSmart or MSN Search.

Keep in mind that not all Inktomi partners tap into the entire Inktomi database. That's one reason why you may find a URL at one service but not at another.

Site Search

To locate all the URLs listed from a particular web site, use the "domain:" command, such as:

domain:searchenginewatch.com

Use only the actual domain name. Omit the http:// prefix. As explained above for AltaVista, using the www prefix can also make a difference.

Unfortunately, the domain command works inconsistently at different Inktomi-powered services. Here's a rundown:

Hi beke,

I know all this, which I have already mentioned in my first post.

There is only the one url, which is submitted by paid listing.

As I am not in the index after 3 month, what I can hear from here, is that I should try the free submit.

Just wondering, why all my other sites got indexed and I have never done that before.

Just wondering as well, why inktomi has spidered couple of times the complete site already and not listed the other pages.

I guess its just wait and see

thanks for all your help
