Directories and PPC for Link Popularity

I know that submitting one's Websites to DMOZ will help boost the link pop if you can get in. DMOZ syndicates their list to other sites like Google and thousands of other sites. Then one should also submit to smaller themed directories that syndicate their directory to spread the popularity to your site. Thus a few strategic submissions would be exponentially effective.

Taking this further I have noticed that certain PPC engines like Search Feed and Overture syndicate their listings.

I believe that most PPC ad links are not spidered by the major search engines, and therefore do not count towards your link popularity.
