Hi Guys - Hello Girls,

I've been receiving emails asking for a home page link exchange.

Some of the sites are very usefull and their theme is indirectly related to my own site.

My questions:

1) Is it considered a good idea - as far as SEs link popularity goes - to conduct links exchange from your home page
(actually a very bottom of your home page) ?

2) If so, what would be the best link structure?

e.g. There are 4 sites: A , B, C, and D

POSSIBLE link structure

- site A gives a link from its home page to the Site's B home page
- site B returns the link back to the site's A home page

- site A gives a link from its home page to the Site's C home page
- site C returns the link back to the site's A home page

- site A gives a link from its home page to the Site's D home page
- site D returns the link back to the site's A home page

Is the site A in danger of being accused of running a link farm?

p.s. All the sites involved have page runk 5, 6 or higher. All have quality information and all related to gaming theme (chess, bingo, mahjong, etc.)

Hi leon3

as long as the pages wishing to link to you are relevant to your customers and have good information, then I don't see why you wouldn't want to link to them.

I try not to worry too much about PR; as long as the site is good and helpful, I will link to it (of course, PR's of 5 and 6 are always nice, can't get away from that warm fuzzy feeling of a nicely green-colored bar :D).

I think the only way you'd ever be considered a link farm is if you had a page with little or no content, and were linking to hundreds of irrelevant pages. This definately does not sound like the case.

<added> I always like to have my links on a seperate page, but that's just personal preference I think.

Hi Leon,

Please don't post the same question in more than one forum. This was probably the better forum for it, but you also posted it in the Google forum. I'll go close that one for you and direct people to answer here.

Solely from the PR viewpoint, I wouldn't put any links to 3rd party sites on a home page.

Can you explain why ? (from the PR viewpoint)

Usually PR comes in the home page, and then, depending on your architecture, gets distributed around the site.
While not a PR hoarder, I just prefer the "main flow" do go first to my more important pages before being diverted outside the site.

If 2 sites, A and B,

- have the same PR 5, and

- have the same amount of links on their home page

then, neither of the 2 sites (home pages) LOOSE PR when engaging in a HOME page link exchange.

Is the above statement TRUE or FALSE?

It certainly sounds plausible, but with so many unknown quantities, I tend to shy away from using TRUE or FALSE.
BTW, my idea of 3rd. party is one where there is no affiliation between sites.
