From everything I have read, learned, heard or dreamt about, these 4 things are key to your placement in AdWords.

1. Price you will pay per click
2. Number of times someone has clicked on your ad
3. Keywords listed in the specific ad group
4. Keywords in the text of your ad

I have been told by Google that #1 and #2 each account for exactly 50% of the algo that determines how high your ad is listed for a specific search return.

However, I am not exactly sure how #3 and #4 relate to each other. So I am throwing this out for discussion. Does anyone have any info on this that they might be willing to share?

AdWords gives you a lot of flexibility in defining the keywords. You can sepcify exact terms or use more open matching (ie. "keyword phrase" versus keyword phrase).

I would assume that the positioning of your ad will vary depending upon how closely a search phrase matches your keyword criteria and how many other ads match the search phrase.

It is quite possible that your ad is competing against a different set of ads for different search terms.

I do not know how #4 might relate. That is news to me.

I have yet another question. I maximized my CPC and used their estimator to determine my daily budget . I then decided that I wanted to appear only on Google for now and adjusted my ad accordingly, but I have yet to see my ad. Sometimes when I go to Google there are no ads at all showing for my category! I am only registering a CTR of 4.5% (it's been about 36 hours for my ad) but I don't understand why I never, ever see my ad on Google. I see the same vendors over and over but not mine. I'veonly had 9 CT's so far couldthat be because I am not being shown very often? I went with their recommendation as to my daily budget, what morecan I do? Any advice?

What is the average position that your ad is listing at?

What keyword phrase are you using to search Google?

What is the keyword set for the ad?
