I dont like this way look too spammy. use noscript instead if u wanna link to some inside content.
And is a splash screen really a plus for your visitors?

Absolutely agree with French Dread. It does look spammy.

Why have splash screens? Users don't like them- I did a study/focus group on that topic about 2 years ago to convince a client once not to have a splash screen. They preferred the designs without an into 4-1.

The only people who like splash screens are designers and corporate executives. (Unless they are looking for information- then they don't like them either...)

Scottie,

Did you publish the results of this study? Did you make a white-paper on it?:slywink: Can I get a copy? I have several sites with splash pages and need to convince the owners that they NEED to get rid of them. :D

It was fairly informal Heidi, but I will be glad to put something together since I still have my notes, somewhere. Only about 25 subjects, and the demographics were targeted to average-level internet-proficient professionals 25-45. It won't be today because I am too busy avoiding completing my taxes!

My site needs some work- I'm restructuring a lot of it to focus on usability. I'll try and get that info along with some other interesting small-group study work I did up before long. It's all a little out of date but still relevant, IMO. Good idea!

Scottiecl,

I would like to see that too.

If you do put it online, make sure to give it a nice splash page. :D

(Actually that would probably work well as a leadoff to the article: "Were you annoyed at having to go through a separate page to get to the information you wanted? If so, you're not alone...")

:uplaugh: Too funny, Sean...

If I do get a chance to put those studies online, it will be with a disclaimer that for the most part, the conclusions are anectodal... not as much detailed research as client-funded market studies. They are certainly objective but don't meet a lot of requirements for a "serious" study. With that in mind, I won't be able to use client names or info so I don't know how convincing they are to the average user.

Although, it always helps to point a client to written information that supports your point. No need to get into qualifying the source...:)

Thought you may get a kick out of this - there was a site called skipintro.com - it opened with one of the silliest intro's and held a library of links to other worthles into pages. The company developed into (you guesed it) a flash intro design firm.

You can still see the original intro (http://www.skipintro.nl/skipintro/skipintro98.htm) that started it all.

Hey Scottie,

Perhaps you have the makings of another guest article? ;)

Perhaps I do... :slywink:

Of course, I still owe you a follow-up on the last one. I'll see if I can't get that to you today.

Scottie, when you get done with your taxes and everything else on your list of things to do and find a spare moment  I would love to have a "report". I just need to get it through these peoples heads that splash pages are useless. Thanks
