Hi All!

Google count Traffic into the equation(?) And how does one get a PR of 8-9 without linkbacks?

:hi:..welcome to the forums

1. Google does not factor traffic into their ranking algo when determining relevancy. (Sometimes people may see a tracking redirect when they click on Google listings but this is just Google tracking clickthroughs for testing purposes)

2. No backlinks = no PR. PR is a measure of backlinks.

Think about it...how could Google no the traffic any given site gets?

Although, now that I think of it, G could certainly count traffic via those that have the Google toolbar installed. Hmmm...

I have quite a few pages that the only backlink is to other pages on the site.

I recently put up an image gallery, the home / default page has a PR of 3 and being new, the only links that point to it are about 240 pages from the main part of the site and 200+ pages from the gallery itself.

All if not most of the 200+ pages of the image gallery have a PR of 1. How much do links from the domain itself play in PR?

Most of the pages ( other than the image gallery ) that have been up for a while have a PR of either 3 or 4.

I seem to do well in the search engines for the optimized keyword phrases and do not normally pay to much attention to PR.

Thanks in advance

Isn't that where Alexa gets it traffic ranking info from - their own toolbar? And I would think that there has to be a lot more users of the Google toolbar...

I have long suspected that Google uses the toolbar to assign traffic measures to URLs. Maybe they use this for something other than PR, if they use it at all. Maybe they use it to determain crawl priority. I would not dismiss it. In fact, I bet they do measure and use a traffic metric. Why wouldn't they?

Well, what good would that do them since many of us have the toolbar but certainly do not have the 'advanced' function of it turned on ALL the time. I rarely turn mine on at all except when I am thinking about taking on a new client.

It would do Google zero good to analyze traffic via the toolbar. It's not like the Alexa one where as long as the toolbar is installed, Alexa can see everywhere you go.
