preventing high ranking pages from being reindexed

i just want to know if it's a good idea to prevent web pages that already have high rankings from being reindexed by Search Engines.

if i do this, would my web pages remain in the listings or databases of Search Engines or will they (after a certain time) remove it from their databases?

I can't imagine any reason why you wouldn't want the search engines to keep a high ranking page in their database. You can use robots.txt to keep them from crawling it again, and they'll probably drop it whenever they update.

So I guess the short answer is "no." The slightly longer answer is "huh?" :D
