Yeah, somebody else linked to that article in here previously. Sure wish I could charge $79K per SEO project

Well, that figure is for two sites.
Also, that seo explains how the sites keyphrases were 'competitive'. Compared to what? Here is one phrase they point out:
computer controlled machining
I cannot find where that term is EVER searched on anywhere? What am I missing? Maybe it's competitive in the very niche market they are targeting, but to say it 'takes a long time' to get ranks on that term is quite a stretch.
Also, I did searches on terms, and the site in the article is no where to be found on them.
Also, the top ten on that phrase above all have a PR3 or lower. Competitive?

I have a client in the same area (NE Ohio) that does a slightly different service then this company - but the same industry. (EDM and CNC Machining) Maybe 2-3 more general keywords are competitive, but not the ones they gave.
My client has over 20 #1-#5 rankings for the related-industry keywords. Not many are incredibly competitive, but more spam in these SERPS than most other industries.

Yeah, I didn't look up any of the phrases, because overall, I just didn't get the 35k price tag... CNC is not viagra, well, not exactly...
I used Astra to take a look at the site and saw some interesting things that I plan to explore and consider implementing, but a post on one of the other boards mentioned seeing a 200-page site that was connected/related in some way. I asked the author for more info, but have not heard back.
I guess the thing that got me was the 4-fold increase in traffic, from 50 to 200 hundred a day.... if you took an established site and optimized (optimised) it, would you expect to see that kind of increase? Is that average, high, or low in your opinion?
I'm talking 3-4 months after the SEO and submissions are done, with no paid placements or PPC.
Thanks,
Christian

The best answer would be that it depends on the industry. This type of machining service - 200 seems very high, but looking at the title tags, I'm having some questions about what they are targeting and receiving. In other industries, increased traffic and conversions can increase by 4-5x, in a very short time.
My machining client didn't see an incredible rise in traffic, but we did see a rise in conversions. We simply targeted the rankings to relevant keywords, and in return got more qualified traffic.

I agree with that, I tell clients it's hard to tell exactly, but on average they can expect a 2-4 time increase in traffic and it will be more qualified.
I try to be a little conservative so the client is never disappointed.

Is this a mirror site, or simply a different URL?
I was looking at nnoble.com, the site listed in the SERP's

I didn't check the IP, but the code on this site looks a little, ah spammy to me....
