FYI, I Just saw some bigger 'text ads" on Google for a search query. Another thing Google has changed since it closed the Premium listings. These new and bigger adword ads cannot be seen on every search results page at the moment so don’t think that I am feeling sleepy ;)

Are you speaking of the Premium listings it offers as an advertising solution, or something different?

Hey Farhan, can you post a sample search query that brings up these larger ads?

I can't see them- maybe it is a regional test thing?

Yes I was referring to the 'advertising model' of premium listings. Now you don't need to contact a Google Rep to have your ad appear on the premium listing spot. It works just like the adwords now.
Kal and Scottie,
I too can't see those bigger ads now!! :(
May be it was a regional testing, but I think Google might be bringing them in.

It appears to be regional testing right now.
Example:
search at www.google.com for canada search engines and notice there is no premium ad at the top ...
now search at www.google.ca for canada search engines and you'll see the new premium ads. :)
Is this what you were talking about Farhan?

I seem to recall seeing one of my GAW ads appearing in the sponsored listings once when I was testing some searches. I wish I could remember what term I used so I could verify it.
I wonder if they are rotating GAW ads in the premium spots if they meet certain criteria and there are no paid sponsors for the term.

I guess I am giving my Rep a call today, as I still see the "Advertising Qualifications" and the "Contact Form" in the Premium Sponsorships section, I guess I need some clarification.
Thanks for the heads up, this is the first I have heard of this.

We are talking 2 things over here.
1. Bigger Adword Ads.
Appeared for sometime for a search I did but I can't see that anymore. They were much larger text ads then the standard Adwords we see.
2. End of Premium Ads.
From now onwards Google will not be accepting business for its premium listings as they plan to show the normal Adwords ads on those spots. This will reduce the human factor involved in Google Premium Listing and will be more beneficial to Google in many aspects.
A few of my Adword ads are already showing up in the premium listings spots.
<edited to add>
Previous premium listing contracts will be honored by Google. So if your target phrase has an advertiser who has already booked the spot for a few months, you'll have to wait till his contract expires.

It would be a real disapointment if they did not. The Premium ads work very well for us.
Does this need to be a topic of it's own?
It's very odd that our rep did not mention this to us, as a matter of fact we are due to renew next month and have been openly dicussing new options. This is all very interesting... especially since I can't get our rep on the phone yet this morning.

I was able to speak to my rep. For anyone else in the same situation I am in, Google will be renewing contracts thru the end of the year. So that gives us a fair amount of time to come up with an alternative plan.
I am torn in my feelings about this. On one hand, this has worked very well for us and I hate to see it go, however, I will be interested to see how well we can leverage our soon to be reliance on AdWords (at Google). I have done work with AdWords and I have liked the results, it's just takes alot more effort than Premium Ads. :)

JohnC, thanks for confirming the situation with Premium listings.
