I did not realize just how many searches were done daily using the Looksmart listings.

======

LookSmart helps more than 35,000 businesses harness the power of Internet search to generate qualified leads. As the global leader in building, distributing and monetizing Web directories, LookSmart databases are searched 60 million times a day, through five of the top 10 portals, five of the top 10 ISPs and hundreds of additional ISP and media partners worldwide. LookSmart's distribution network reaches 82 percent, or more than four out of five U.S. Internet users, through Microsoft's MSN, Excite@Home, Alta Vista, iWon, Netscape Netcenter, Inktomi, Time Warner, Prodigy, Juno, CNN, Road Runner, Cox Interactive Media, InfoSpace, and Qwest. BTLookSmart, LookSmart's joint venture with BT, deploys LookSmart wireless and Web directory solutions for ISPs, portals and mobile Internet businesses across Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Even though LookSmart has some great reach, they do not drive traffic. I have about 30 pages indexed well in LookSmart, but we only receive about 290 users a month from them. If you compare this to any other directory it is very poor.

LookSmart 30 pages 290 users/month
Yahoo 15 pages 15200 users/month
ODP 25 pages 7000 users/month

I realize that not many can come close to Yahoo, but I really expected to have better results than I did. I think it should be closer to the results I get from ODP.

Wow Hope!

I truly believe it must have something to do with the markets.

My site and my clients ALL get a majority from MSN, which is the Looksmart listing. .... very strange.

Personally, my site gets virtually zero from the Yahoo listing, although I get lots from Yahoo/Google.

Usually, the traffic breaks down likes this:

Google
MSN - very close 2nd
AltaVista
Excite
Yahoo
Hotbot
AOL and Netscape - virtually zero

It amazes me how different we all are. I have heard about both sides.

Google is the biggest producer for hits for us also. Looksmart just doesn't do a thing for us. It doesn't make much sense. Like you said it is probably the market. One of the other problems could be that there are two listings in Looksmart that come up that have problems. One has 2 typos and the other has our name wrong. I have emailed them over 20 times and even called them. Nothing seems to work. I have finally given up.

I had it on good authority that this place could help me. I won't name any names, but this person seemed pretty sure it was a good place. ;)

I know Looksmart has been getting much positive attention lately, with the price decrease and allowing the suggestions of categories. But I've also noticed a slight increase in traffic as well, not only from US Looksmart, but also their UK and Canadian counterparts.

Yes, JH, I also have noticed an increase in traffic.

It use to be that Google was way above MSN in referrals, but now they are neck and neck.

Now that these forums are in MSN's search results, we will get Many hits from MSN. I also have seen an increase from other partners of Looksmart.

Check out:
free search engine..... a good term

Two sites in the top 5. :)

MANY other terms rank on the first page now at MSN.
