Hello Again Forum members.

Do you think there is an advantage to having your own dedicated IP address?

I currently am on a shared IP adress with my hosting company and have heard that you may get better placement in SE with a dedicated IP.

I do have my own URL but the IP is shared with others at my hosting company.

I'm a firm believe in each site having their own IP address.

I would like to mention that getting a separate IP address for each web site is good when hosting a site on shared server where different companies web sites are on the same server. You do not want to be penalized for someone else's spamming if you are both on the same IP address.

However if you are working with a client that runs their own server, and only hosts their own sites there is not really a need for separate IP addresses. There is not really a risk, unless they are hosting their server from the same network they work on. Even this would only matter if they were violating the search engines terms of service.

I only mention any of this because there currently is a finite amount of IP addresses and moving to a less finite solution requires corporations spending a good amount of money to upgrade to IPv6, either in hardware, or labor costs.

Just my opinion
