Shared IP vs. Dedicated IP

My site is on a shared IP right now and I'm thinking of moving it to a dedicated IP address. I am worried that doing so will hurt the excellent rankings I have obtained. What should I do?

Moving to a new IP address should not affect your rankings at all.

One more thing, is there a real advantage to having a dedicated IP address over a shared address?

AFAIK the only possible problem is if you share an IP address with domains that have fallen foul of the SE's because of bad practice. A small risk, but it's there.

I agree with Scottiecl. I don't think that shared vs dedicated IP will affect your ranking, especially if you have quality content.

Save those fews extra bucks and give it to some good cause :)

I've moved hosts several times, and have not had a problem. Shared or dedicated or even moving to a whole new subnet.
