OK, I have a domain which is my own and I want to get as much traffic as poss without spending a bomb!!

I was thinking of - submitting to ask.co.uk via position technologies - £40.00, Inktomi - $39.00.

What other recommendations would people have?? - I want to spend about £100.00 approx. I cant quite stretch to a yahoo submission - is this really worth the money??

I think the home page needs a bit of a redesign to be more search engine friendly - can any of you guru's check it out.
I used to do a bit of seo a few years ago - the goalposts have moved a bit now.
What about link popularity - important?? - how can I check it.

How will I know if I've been spidered??

I am considering PPC with overture.?? - worth it??

Thanks

Nick

Welcome to the forums naughtydog! :hi:

I suggest you read up in here about the search engines. Then ask specific questions about what you don't understand. Since your questions require an e-book of a post, I will start out with this:

Paying for inclusion on ask or inktomi or any other engine does Not mean you will get visitors because you paid. You have to optimize your site to do that.

I've had a look around and I cant find any tutorials as such...do you suggest a have a look around the forums and target specific engines??

Do you advocate cloaking??

Do you have any particular threads that I will find especially helpful??

Thanks

Nick

No. You need to design all of the aspects of your site to target specific keyword phrases in order to rank well once you are indexed. What Doug was saying is that merely paying to be indexed will not gaurantee that your site will be found when searching for any particular term unless your site has been optimized for it.

Read everything you can in these forums and you will start to understand what you need to do. Ask targeted questions and you will get answers. Your initial post is too broad to be answered here.
