If you're an Adwords advertiser, you may want to know that Adwords has dropped its keyword-specific minimum bids. Some terms used to have minimums well above Adword's standard $0.05 minimum. If you have terms that were affected by this, you may find you can re-optimize your campaigns at a lower bid point.

...and about time too!
This was the most annoying and disappointing aspect of Adwords to many people.
Nice to see common sense prevail (eventually).
It'll be interesting to see how this affects the total cost of campaigns that we've been running. There are certain phrases where we have been the only advertiser, and yet the minimum cost per click has been vastly over-inflated.
[Cline, can you point us to where you read about this? Cheers, Daniel]

I first heard about it on another discussion group. It has since been confirmed in Google Adwords News Issue #2, May '03
--------
"Minimum cost-per-click now 5¢ for all keywords: Save money
Recently, we lowered the minimum CPC for all keywords to 5¢. As a result, you may notice a drop in the average CPC you are paying for some of your keywords. This also means that if you've ever come across a keyword that was just a little bit pricier than you would have liked, now's the time to give it another try."

That is utterly, truly, great news.
I'm going to crank up a few new campaigns right now.

hmmm, makes you wonder why it is that Google always seems to have good news, when the others always seem to have bad news? .... minimums going up, etc AKA overture.

Very true, Doug.
I think it goes a long way to solidify their place in many minds . . .
More than just technology, they seem to have some pretty savvy marketing strategists there.

That is great news! All my bids have been 5c for awhile now. It will be interesting to see if I get in on some other phrases that I was blocked out for before.

My new ads have had over 200 impressions in a couple hours, all for terms I would never have bid on at the old minimums. Including "search engine optimization," where it seems my nickel will actually buy me some traffic.
