View Full Version : Zeal Definition of "Commercial"?

I have a commercial website that has a section which details the latest computer security alerts (viruses, worms etc) as well as offering users the choice to subscribe to a mailing list and receive the alerts by email. Nothing is sold on this page and it is a free service.

Do you think it would be possible to submit this page (not the main website URL) to Zeal?I can give you the URL if you like.

Many thanks,
Soph

Sure you can if you do not sell anything or get affiliate commissions in any way from anything.

You also have to take a quiz before you submit.

Sose--it can't hurt to try and submit that page to Zeal. I do see other (deeper) pages listed in Zeal...not all sites are listed by their root domain.

I can suggest sites to Zeal if you'd like to PM the URL to me, if you haven't taken those Zealot quizzes...

You can certainly try submitting it...got nothing to lose!

According to the guidelines, there's a good chance they would allow it, but it depends on how much good content you have.

Give it a whirl!

From your experience, how long does it take for a page submitted thru Zeal to be included [into a Zeal category]? And are some other zealot's activities 'musts' to get listed? I submitted a non-commercial site to Zeal a week ago, but it is still pending. :(

The few I submitted were usually accepted within a few hours to a few days.

I've had 7 pages added through Zeal, some within hours, some within a day or 2, some within 4 or 5 days, but nothing longer than that.

:( That's my bad luck, I think... OK, what should my next steps be? E-mailing to the category editor? I didn't notice any normal pending period mentioned. Do you know when it's gonna be OK to bother them?

If it has only been a week then don't bother them. It will probably get listed in a few days. If for some reason it doesn't, I'd wait at least a month before bothering them about it.

When a site is 'suggested'/submitted to Zeal, a Zealot/editor evaluates the submission and either lists the site or doesn't.
It has always been, in my experience, that the Zeal member who suggests the site will get an email saying it was listed or an email stating why it was not accepted. The longest I've waited for a site to be listed was a few days but then again, it's a human-edited directory done by volunteers so the wait time will vary depending on the amount of sites waiting to be evaluated and on the amount of time the editors have to volunteer.

Just wanted to say thanks to all of you for your help and especially to MsSearch. I am now in Zeal and doing the Happy Dance.

So now how long is it usually till it shows up in LookSmart? Also is it found through cats or searches? I am a bit new to the Zeal/LookSmart angle...
