Hello,

I have been with the same web hosting company since 1997 and have a wonderful relationship with them. However, I am having big problems with stats right now. My stats were stuck on May 23rd until just a few minutes ago. The host reset the stats and now everything is set to zero. Have I lost 4 days worth of stats? This is really bugging me.

When the stats are working, I only get them refreshed once per day. Is this normal for other hosts? Do you people have real time stats? If so, I might have to give them the boot.....

It seems to me that web statistics should be in real time....

Thanks,
Patrick

The stats I get from my host aren't quite live, but they're pretty close. It looks like they get updated every half hour or so. But they're hardly complete, and some of the results are just weird. When I look at referrals from search engines, Google is never in there, and looking at my log files I can see that Google is consistently my number one referrer. Seems the stats application just doesn't recognize Google at all.

I can't afford to get something like Net Tracker or Click Tracks, so for the time being I use a combination of three things: the free stats I get from the host, the raw log files, and Reinvigorate/DAS (Data Archiving Service) (http://www.reinvigorate.net/system/), a free, truly live Java app. The data from DAS is very limited (it only gives data for your home page, for one thing), but I find it useful in combination with the other stuff. With DAS, you can actually watch hits as they come in, but all you get from that is the user's IP, the referrer, the time zone, and whether the visit is unique or not. In addition to that, you get a long-term overview of browsers, referrers, time zones, visits/uniques, and display settings.

And did I mention that it's free?
