Collecting e-mail addresses

Hello everyone, :hi: I hope this is the right forum!

I would like to collect the e-mail addresses of the visitors in my site in order to create a mailing list and start a newsletter. What di I do first? Could you recommend a program/form/service in order to do that? Do I need an autoresponder? A database?

Bravenet (http://www.bravenet.com) has a free service you can use to start out. The confirmation e-mail contains an ad. You can export the addresses later if you move to a more advanced system.
