Hi sly
I personally wouldnt give the alexa rankings much consideration.
I know of a number of websites that rank well and get great traffic and yet have a 'low' alexa score.
Last time I looked the alexa rating was determined by the number of people who have the alexa toolbar installed, so if a user visits a certain webpage and has the alexa toolbar installed then alexa will take note of this and add the data to its calculations.
Many people do not have the alexa toolbar installed, which means that visits by these people to a particualr website wouldn't contribute to the alexa score.

It is my understanding that the Alexa Toolbar is favored by Asia & webmasters/seo consultants. The results are skewed to their interests.

That's right. I had to explain to one of my clients who was getting overly interested in tracking his Alexa rankings that there was an obvious relationship between when I was doing lots of work for them causing their ranking to up, and when I was on vacation the ranking would go down.
