MazY - what are you doing here at 5 in the morning?
It's a pity people feel they need to resort to such meaures. Plain lack of knowledge or understanding. I took a random invisible keyphrase "substandard life insurance" off his home page, searched his site for it using Google taskbar, and found this page:
http://www.wallstinsurance.com/substandard-life.html
Now, wouldn't that be the page he'd want people to land on if they were searching for "substandard life insurance"??? Fact is, with this stupid spam, his home page would likely win out and be the one listed. Lower conversion rates for him, lower satisfaction for the user. newriver, if you know him and don't dislike him, tell him!

I'm one of those rare "sleep 3 hours a day people". And I work much better through the night that I do during the day.

Great points Alan!~
Had they optimized that page proper, it would probably convert much better then the home page. Let's just hope he does not follow the referrals and decide to apply the same techniques to all the pages. The page didn't even have keywords or a description meta tag. Besides the not so hidden text on the homepage, it also has multiple keyword tags!~ :eyes:

The page didn't even have keywords or a description meta tag. Besides the not so hidden text on the homepage, it also has multiple keyword tags!Oh! Desperate for traffic (desperate enough to risk losing all to get a bit more) but doesn't know what to do with it when he gets it..."Hey, I know you wanted substandard life insurance, but why not take a look at my lurvely homepage and spend some time trying to find it on my site. Where are you going? Come on, I really do sell substandard life insurance, you know. Hello? HELLO??? SH*T!"

Was it him that created the page or was it Robin's Web as the link says on the main page? (http://www.robinsweb.com/)

Too funny!~ :green:
All too often I have used the search engines, only to click on a listing to find myself at a loss as to where is the information I really wanted. This can get quite cumbersome with some of the larger sites, where it appears they try to cram everything onto the home page. Oh what a nice local search feature would allow...

I just emailed him and said his site was using known spamming techniques which could cause him probs in the search engines. I also invited him to join the forums.
We'll see what happens...

We have to keep in mind that the owner may not realize the harm being done to the site. Maybe some so-called SEO did this?

Yes, that's why I thought I better make him aware of it. Perhaps he'll join us in the forums and learn how to do the SEO himself the "right" way...

Scary to think about all the people who may be unaware that the very people they "hire" to help their rankings may actually be hindering them! Whether he chooses to do the work himself or not, hopefully at the very least he will be educated as to what to look for in the future.

Has anyone reported this guy to google yet? Or was the consensus to wait and see if he corrected the spam or showed up in the forums?
Now, something totally different:
Don’t you just hate people that create their own world on the Internet?

Hi lots0cash
> "Has anyone reported this guy to google yet?"
I certainly haven't. I think the keenest "reporters" are those who have a vested interest in the site being demoted ... if there are none of those around, then it's not a "competitive" area anyway.
However, being listed in this forum will either get his attention or a search engine's. Let's hope for his sake that it gets his attention first.
As for your context switch...I think you are in need of some Monty Python :)

I have noticed that when people use comment tags to cram keywords they sometimes begin the comment with THESE ARE VALID KEYWODS FOR THIS SITE ...Is this an automated spam program thing or does it have any significance.
1 more thing, back in the old days of SEO were practices such as these seen as clever and acceptable.

Could be automated, could be put in by hand ... I'm really not "up" on all the auto-spam programs. :)
The only "significance" it has is that someone (site owner or auto-spam author) knows they are playing with fire. They'd be better off if they didn't put the comment in.
Valid keywords for the site are words that are visible on the site!
"Back in the old days", you could get away with a lot more, but it was still search engine spam. "Clever" is a subjective word, but "acceptable" - no, never to the search engines (which is who you need to be acceptable to).
