View Full Version : Google Referrer Query Tracker?

I have an Apache web-server with several domains. I want to find an offline Windows freeware/ shareware program that lets me analyze the referrer string, ideally so that I could have a list of all Google search queries a user entered before arriving at my site. Is there such a thing?

(Of course I can open the log-file in a text-editor and search for "www.google.com" but this becomes a bit tedious.)

Pretty much any log-file analysis software will tell you that stuff.

Webtrends, Urchin, and the zillions of others out there.

If you check the other posts in this log-file forum, you will get some ideas.

This one is free. I don't use it as my hosting provider offers Urchin as part of the service and I like it just fine.

Thanks for the Analog link, but I'm looking more for an interface-driven Windows program. And Jill, to be more specific, I'm looking for the best search-engine-queries log-analyzer. E.g. one that would have the tabs "Google", "Google Images", "AllTheWeb", with the queries grouped into top-ten etc.

Well. I just might want to write it myself. I did write log-analyzers before but currently don't have any VisualBasic or the like on the computer (I'm sitting in an internet-cafe, or what you call it).

I already downloaded tools, but they didn't work like I wanted. Like, the *google.com* referrer inclusion filter simply failed for one.

Well, good luck finding that for free.

Urchin is a nice system that does those things, but I doubt that it is free.

Just for info:
I use a package called SmarterStats that will parse the querystrings from up to 100 searchengines and compile statistical reports on keywords used. I believe the basic option is free.

try going to www.smarterstats.com (http://www.smarterstats.com) to see whether it would be suitable for you. Possibly not for larger scale rollouts, but for the individual looking to analyse their logs locally it's ideal.
