professional certification for SEO?

hi all,

anybody know if there's any professional certification to obtain for SEO?

say ... perhaps attend some course and get a cert or allow your site to be run through by a central governing body to ensure proper SEO have been done and obtain a accreditation label of some sort?

Thanks lots!

There is no central governing body in the SEO industry. Any certification would not be worth the paper it was written on.

Welcome!

There is only "your" experience or lack of it that matters. No course will give you experience, and no certification will give you experience either. You either have it or you don't have it. If you don't have it, you build yourself up by offering "free" services "FIRST" in order to get a track record. You gradually offer services for a small fee, and raise your fees from there.

It really gets my goat up that new people to this industry are charging fees to unsuspecting website owners, when they have zero experience and really don't know what they are doing.

The closest thing to professional certification from a central governing body would be the pat on the back you would get from members in here if you had first done a lot of reading in here and then asked a lot of questions in here and then through having applied the knowledge you learned in here, you posted a thread in our Search Engine Success Stories forum telling us how you achieved your goals through Best Practices SEO.

But we're not really central, nor do we govern, and I'm willing to bet that some of our bodies are out of shape.

A lot of us are professional however and most of us are probably at least somewhat certifiable!

Why?

It does not meet any of the criteria; it is not recognised widely within the industry; it has no academic accreditation, these is no central body.

Think carefully about paying for something that could be my evil twin setting up a scam site last weekend*.

Read around in forums and web sites; find out (in detail) what a course offers, only once you know enough to know your knowledge gaps.

*But it isn't; and in fact I know nothing of this particular site - but nor do you!!

I'm making a general point about SEO education; if this site checks out and offers what you need, then that's great - but it still has very limited recognition and zero accreditation. They all do!

Good Luck!

The "member feedback" makes this such a tempting offer:

"The training is top-shelf, I received a Google PageRank of 6 in less than 2 months time."

But I think I'll save the $200 - $675 annual membership fee (and the $89 study guide) and learn stuff here. Maybe Doug will certify me and make me a logo I can use.

Ive been asking about this for years and have come to realize that MAJOR changes will have to happen in our industy before certification can ever become a reality.

Im not holding my breath.
