Google loves weblogs (blogs, or other name #$%$#$ that means the same). Many people are wanting to get up and running with listings in Google asap. I read them in the forum all the time. The quickest way to get listed in Google is to start a weblog in a family of blogs like Radio Userland, Blogger.com etc.

Personally, I would not start a normal website without having an attached weblog. It will be the weblog that gets attention first.
